Hello, my name is Matt Loughlin and I am a traditional letter-cutter, stone carver, and memorial mason who specialises in bespoke memorials, fine art, and garden sculpture.

Whether it’s a traditional gravestone, a memorial to a beloved pet, or perhaps a piece of fine art for your home, crafting something meaningful and unique is my goal as an artist and craftsman.

Everything I make is drawn and carved by hand. In a world where everything is mass produced, I believe strongly in making beautiful handmade things that will last for generations.

I draw and carve all of my work by hand, using the traditional hammer and chisel - the old-school way. I take great pride in providing my clients with a low-stress, creative commissioning process, focused on making something truly special. I strive to create meaningful pieces of art that celebrate life, while also adding a bit of beauty and interest to the historical landscape.

  • Fluidity an Inscription Exhibition

    Runs until May 30th 2026

    I currently have several pieces of letter-carving on display at the Crafts Study Centre as a part of their Fluidity an Inscription exhibition.

    It was a great privilege to have my work show in such a prestigious instituion and in company with so many amazing artists and craftspeople.

  • Solo Exhibition - Andelli Art

    Sept 5th - 19th 2026

    This is a big announcement for me - I will be having my first-ever solo exhibition at Andelli Art in September.

    Carved stonework, metalwork, printmaking, and even drawing and painting will be included in the show.

The things I make…

  • I draw and hand-carve gravestones, cremation stones, church plaques, as well as commemorative stones and sculptures that can live in your home.

  • I carve original pieces of art that are often shown and sold in galleries, as well as in my own web shop in the Fine Art section.

    I make wall-hanging stones, freestanding sculpture, and prints made from the stones themselves.

  • A growing part of my practice is making pieces that live outside or in a garden. I can make everything from a carved paving stone for path to a standing stone that sits amongst a field of flowers.

  • House signs are often a drab affair, but I try to bring as much creativity and flair to them as I would to a piece of fine art.

    An interesting house sign can not only be very practical, in terms of making your home easier to find, but can add an extra hint of interest and character, as well.
